The statement which best describes the organization of the passage is:

(A) A contrast is drawn between two concepts by means of examples.

According to the passage, the concepts of analogy and homology are ___

(B) easier to understand through examples than through definitions

The word “rigid” in line 4 is closest in meaning to ___

(A) inflexible

According to the information provided in the passage, the answer which would most probably be considered analogous is:

(B) A man’s arms and a bird’s wings

According to the passage, one way in which homologous organs differ from analogous organs is that they ___

(A) are genetically related

As used throughout the passage, the term “structures” would most nearly mean ___

(B) features of an animal’s anatomy

The word “sense” in line 13 is closest in meaning to ___

(C) meaning

The place in the passage which the author first focus his discussion on the concept of homology is:

1. Lizards, because it's arm bone structure is the most similar to a human's.
2. Lizard, Cat, Human, Bat, and Frog.
3. A bat's wing uses extremely thin sheets of skin webbing on it's wings to glide and fly, while a bird uses feathers along it's wings to glide and fly.
4. A whale's fin because it is in the same Kingdom, as well as the fact that it is used in a similar fashion.
5. These six organisms aren't all too different in function.

Hope this helped!

1) Cat. The structure of the bones of the arm are the most similar in the cat, differing only in size and a slight variation in arrangement in the hand.

2) All of these organisms except the bird have five finger-like projections

3) The bones leading up to the hand are almost identical, but the bones at the end are very different. Bird's wings have feathers branching from the arm bones, while the bat's wing has its "fingers" running through the skin that makes up the wing.

4) A whale's forelimb is most likely to be similar to a dolphin's flipper.

5) The similarities in structures of the forelimbs of all of these animals suggest they evolved from a common ancestor that had this fundamental structure of a forelimb, and then their limbs specialized for a specific function over time.

Humans are most closely related to Chimpanzees because they have the same cytochrome c, as well as alpha and beta hemoglobin chains.
Mammals have five fingers. Humans, Koalas etc., are the example.
Bird wings consist of feathers extending all along the arm, whereas, Bat wings has flaps of skin stretched between the bones of the fingers and arm.
Human forelimb is considered to be most similar to the Dolphin Flipper, because both have humerus bones, and have similar smaller bones in the wrist and finger bones.

A spring is a natural discharge point of subterranean water at the surface of the ground or directly into the bed of a stream, lake, or sea. Water that emerges at the surface without a perceptible current is called a seep. Wells are holes excavated to bring water and other underground fluids to the surface.
