The analogy Malala made was "Dear sisters and brothers, we realize the importance of light when we see darkness. We realize the importance of our voice when we are silenced. In the same way, when we were in Swat, the north of Pakistan, we realized the importance of pens and books when we saw the guns." Malala's experience as a child was that she was hoping someone would recognize her, take her under their wing, and he own words, "shine a light on her."  When nobody showed up for her, she realizes the extraordinary power she can have with her education. She then thrives to fight for education against the Taliban. The Taliban is fearful of what people like her can do with education so they take away their power, cutting off education to women. What Malala is deeply emphasizing here is that her people always realize the importance of something when the opposite is taking its place. An example is the importance of light when they see dark. Another great example is "  We realize the importance of our voice when we are silenced." This really does show the true meaning and power you can have with a strong voice. Malala made an analogy, and this is the deeper picture behind it.
