A big theme of the novel “Their eyes were watching god" is Determination. This theme lasts to the very end of the story. Through determination, Janie has been able to have a different look upon life and living. The resolution of the plot is the making of loose ends or unanswered questions being answered. Janie, at last, finds a person who she could love. However, she soon realizes that he is not what Janie had hoped him to be, he has his flaws, for there is no such thing as perfect. He is attractive and many girls would jump or snatch him and so Janie lives with fears. Janie has finally understood that her beloved spouse, Teacake, gave her the will to live fully, love, and have her own personal life that she was afraid to have before then.

The characterization and diction used in the story are effortlessly understandable and can easily guide the reader on the setting of the book. The choice of language is also so popular with the addition that almost every character is using the same language. Since the narrator is using Standard English, it has made it easier to recognize whether the narrator is speaking or if it’s a direct quote from one of the characters. The jury also uses Standard English which makes them sound cold and formal.

Explanation:

I cleaned it up a bit because it got a little wordy.

In the novel (Ender's Game) the author uses both formal and informal diction to convey his purpose. An example of informal diction is: “Cause you got none, Dink, that’s why.” Pg.81. An example of a formal diction for the book is: “I hope you will forgive me, Colonel Graff.” Pg.98. In characterization the author, throughout the novel builds up Ender’s personality. Sometimes Ender was nice and quiet, and sometimes Ender was dark and violent. The author used indirect characterization to show Ender’s personality. The author for diction uses a military tone as the setting of the book is in a children’s battle school, where kids are drafted to the military to help fight aliens in the future.

When George shoots Lennie it shows that he cared for Lennie and knew that if he let the others find him they would torture him. Steinbeck shows that, in Lennie's case, people with mental illnesses were treated as inferior and misunderstood with little help in their situations. It also shows that when people are prisoners to their status, such as Curly's wife, you are driven to do dramatic and attention seeking acts that cause trouble of everyone.
