Both poems deal with the idea that personal identity has many layers. In "Escape", the speaker feels like others seems to know her better than she knows herself, but she says that she is not what they think. In "To Live" the speaker has to cultures that influence who she is. She also writes about how hard it is to figure out who you are with all the distractions that are around you.
In Chapter 10 of the book, the main character, Frankenstein, agrees to create a wife for the monster who has been tormenting him. He travels to England and seeks help from scientists to expedite his work. However, he becomes worried about the consequences of creating another monster and the potential harm they could cause. When he almost completes the creation of the female monster, he is overcome with guilt and destroys his work. The monster confronts him and warns him of the consequences before disappearing. Later, Frankenstein is accused of murder in Ireland and taken into custody without knowing the reason behind the accusation.
