Jacob spends 60 minutes in the gym every day doing freehand exercises and running on the treadmill. He runs on the treadmill for 30 minutes longer than he does freehand exercises.

Part A: Write a pair of linear equations to show the relationship between the number of minutes Jacob does freehand exercises (y) and the number of minutes he runs on the treadmill (x).

Part B: How much time does Jacob spend doing freehand exercises? Show your work.

Part C: Is it possible for Jacob to have spent 40 minutes running on the treadmill if he spends exactly 60 minutes total at the gym and runs on the treadmill for 30 minutes longer than he does freehand exercises? Explain your reasoning.

Answer:

A)x+y = 60

x = 30 + y
B)Time spend on freehand exercise is 15 minutes and on trademill is 45 minutes.
C) given below

Step-by-step explanation:

Time spend on freehand exercise is y and that on trademill is x.

As per the give problem

A) pair of linear equations

x+y = 60 ....(1)

x = 30 + y .....(2)

B)

Using (1) and (2)

30+y +y = 60

2y = 60-30 = 30

y = 15 minutes

And x = 30+y = 30+15 = 45 minutes

Time spend on freehand exercise is 15 minutes and on trademill is 45 minutes.

C) No it's is not possible

As per the given problem

x + y = 60 ....(3)

x = 30 + y ....(4)

x = 40 minutes....(5)

Using (3) and (5) y= 60-x = 60-40 = 20 minutes

And using (4) and (5)

40 = 30+y

y = 10 minutes

We have two different values of y which is not possible.

F=ma

where F=force

m=mass

a=acceleration

Here,

F=4300

a=3.3m/s2

m=F/a

    =4300/3.3

    =1303.03kg

Approximately it is aqual to 1300kg

Cost before sale tax=$46.00

Cost after including tax=$48.76

Sale tax=$48.76-46.00

=$2.76

we know,

sale tax=((sales tax rate)/100) * cost before sale tax

2.76=((sales tax rate)/100) *46.00

sale tax rate=(2.76*100)/46

                   =276/46

                    =6%

There fore sales tax rate=6%
