I chose this topic because I myself have been affected by this issue and would like to persuade you on how harmful alcohol abuse really is. I am also going to talk to you about the types of drinking, how it can be avoided, and how much it can change your life. 

There are two types of drinking; heavy drinking and binge drinking. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “Binge drinking, the most common form of excessive drinking is defined as consuming, for women, 4 or more drinks during a single occasion. For men, 5 or more drinks during a single occasion. Heavy drinking is defined as consuming for women, 8 or more drinks per week. For men, 15 or more drinks per week.” Consuming this amount of drinks is extremely detrimental to one's health, as excessive alcohol in one's system can shut down important organs such as the liver, and can lead to alcohol poisoning which can be deadly. Bingeing on alcohol is also extremely dangerous as it causes dependency on drinks to cope with pain, instead of healthy alternatives such as exercise, meditation, and counseling. By reaching for a drink instead of a phone to call for help, the person's dependency on alcohol increases and the cycle repeats itself over and over again.
